Silver (Stepping Stone, paper)
Published in Paperback by Random House (Merchandising) (May, 1988)
Authors: Gloria Whelan and Stephen Marchesi
Average review score:

It was very fun to read
This book is about a girl whose dad is in the Iditarod race in Alaska. But he can't race with his lead dog because she is going to have puppies... so he gets the second lead dog. The musher's daughter wants a dog and on her birthday the first lead dog has puppies and because it's her birthday, she gets to keep one of the puppies. She names it Silver.

I think you would like to read this book because it's about a little girl and how she gets a puppy. It is a chapter book. And it has lots of action. The pictures are black and white drawings. When I'm older, I want to go in the Junior Iditarod.

Silver, Gold, and Precious Stones: Adventures in Art
Published in Hardcover by Prestel USA (April, 2000)
Authors: Gustav Klimt and Angela Wenzel
Average review score:

Gorgeous book!! Not just for kids.
This is a beautiful book. It is geared toward older children, but the presentation and photo quality will make any adult take a second look. Klimt's work is often characterized by the use of gold leaf -- this book actually prints the paintings so that they have a gold surface. Each page discusses an aspect of Klimt's life or work-- his relationship with Emile Floge, his travels to Italy, his Beethoven Frieze, etc. The background of each page is beautifully decorated to correspond with the information and photographs.

I have several other books of Klimt's work-- this one has the best overview of his life and work, best reproductions, and by far my favorite in terms of how it presented the information. It is only 30 pages, but is truly a gem of a book.

If you are interested in art history or art in general, I also recommend the other Adventures in Art books, particulary the one on Van Gogh. The presentation is very similar to the Klimt book.

This book will make you cry!
This was the first book I read by my favorite author, Ms. Stone, and I must say that it is one of my favorites. Since then, I have read every one of her books. Ms. Stone truly writes from the heart. This story will definitely make you cry as there are a few parts in which it will make your heart break. Ms. Stone is a gifted writer. Be sure to read her other books, too!

Slam the Big Door
Published in Paperback by Fawcett Books (December, 1987)
Authors: John D. MacDonald and Stone
Average review score:

Profound, moving, timeless¿also full of suspense. Classic!
John D. MacDonald scored again with this atmospheric, deeply moving novel about a man both coming to terms with the death of his wife and the wilful self-destruction of his best friend. As usual with John D., the sentiments expressed about life, people and the state of the world in the last half of the millenium are timeless. Why aren't these books more readily available? We are in desperate need of classics like this.

Extremely competitive. We have lots of parents, fighting on the sidelines, basically trying to live their lives through their children.

Software Goes to School: Teaching for Understanding With New Technologies
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (April, 1997)
Authors: David N. Perkins, Judah L. Schwartz, Mary Maxwell West, and Martha Stone Wiske
Average review score:

Thoughtful compilation of essays
The book has a set of well-written essays that cover a range of topics. The essays also have good bibliographies. The book is dated 1995, but still seems completely relevant -- I just hope they do a year 2000 version. Highly recommended for people thinking about, or designing products, that are intended to increase student learning.

Song of the stone
Published in Unknown Binding by Stone House Publishing Inc ()
Author: Barry Brailsford
Average review score:

The Song of the Stone
This is the incredible story of a group of people with a specific goal and a trail they knew something about, which was to lead them at first across the Southern Alps of New Zealand and then to North America and beyond. The path they had to follow, though, could only be found by intuition and vision: in order to get where they were going, they had to make the wisdom of chance and dreams more important than the counsel of logic. "Synchronicity" steered them in a way that no map could. So, their journey became one of spirit and courage. Not only is "The Song of the Stone" a compelling and humorous story, I don't think you could read this book without meeting a world of fabulous mystery and asking many dangerous questions. Is there something else to ask for from a book?

Song of the Wolf
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (April, 2000)
Author: Scott C. S. Stone
Average review score:

The author was a real mercenary so the book is fine.
Scott C.S. Stone is a legend in Hawaii. He is a very strong and resourceful man with a heart of gold. He was also a mercenary in Indochina. The Song of the Wolf reflects many of the experiences of the author as a young man. And then some. You will never regret reading such a fine adventure novel.
